- Boil the Bay Leaves:
- In a pot, add 4-5 bay leaves to 2 cups of water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. This allows the beneficial compounds from the bay leaves to infuse into the water.
- Remove from Heat:
- Once the bay leaves have simmered, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Add Lemon Juice:
- Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into the warm bay leaf water. Stir well to combine.
- Optional – Add Honey:
- If you prefer a sweeter syrup or need extra soothing for your throat, add 1 tablespoon of honey. Honey also has additional antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help with cough relief.
- Strain and Store:
- Strain the mixture to remove the bay leaves, then pour the syrup into a glass jar or bottle. Store it in the refrigerator, where it can last for up to 5 days.
