  1. Boil the Bay Leaves:
    • In a pot, add 4-5 bay leaves to 2 cups of water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. This allows the beneficial compounds from the bay leaves to infuse into the water.
  2. Remove from Heat:
    • Once the bay leaves have simmered, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Add Lemon Juice:
    • Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into the warm bay leaf water. Stir well to combine.
  4. Optional – Add Honey:
    • If you prefer a sweeter syrup or need extra soothing for your throat, add 1 tablespoon of honey. Honey also has additional antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help with cough relief.
  5. Strain and Store:
    • Strain the mixture to remove the bay leaves, then pour the syrup into a glass jar or bottle. Store it in the refrigerator, where it can last for up to 5 days.
